It’s time for Thankful Thursday again! What are you thankful for today?
I’m thankful for family – a family where love abounds. As I filled out the pre-op paperwork last week, I was reminded how blessed and graced I am to have loving family. Questions like “do you have someone to talk to when you are sad or afraid?” and “do you have someone to help you when you need help?” saddened me because I knew that if they had to ask, it was likely that many patients couldn’t answer these in the affirmative.
So today, I am especially thankful for my loving family. I’m thankful for a loving and supportive husband who has been by my side along this life’s journey. I’m thankful for my mom who came out to help after my first surgery. I’m thankful for my dad coming out and helping as I go in for my second surgery. I’m thankful for in-laws who were willing to rearrange their usual Christmas traditions and plans, and come here to visit and help after my second surgery. I’m thankful for my church family and all their prayers, love, and support during this time. Grace upon grace.
As I reflect on these thoughts, I don’t take the above for granted. I pray for those of you who have tense and/or difficult family situations, for those that have lost loved ones, and those for whom the holiday season brings back painful memories or sad disappointment. And I pray that the love, grace, and surpassing peace of God would fill your hearts, and that you would see Him as the loving Father that you need (that we all need). May the Immanuel “God with us” be with you today!
