Thank you all for your support and prayers.
My pain control has been wonderful since they put in the new epidural. I’m completely off the pca (opiates) and thrilled about that. They made me so loopy and not able to focus my eyes, and they didn’t do much for pain control. My pain is now completely controlled by epidural (for incision and abdomen) and tylenol (for sore shoulders and other sundry pains that might come up).
I’m up and walking, which also helps with pain for me (keeps me from getting stiff). My catheter is out and I started on full liquids this morning. Had a bit of cream of wheat and some apple cinnamon herbal tea this morning. Will take it slow and listen to my body. Having done this before is helpful – and the doctors/residents that had me both last time and now listen well and seem pretty confident about my concerns and me knowing my body (what to eat and how much to walk and leaving epidural in). It’s nice to see familiar faces. Even had someone from before (my last surgery epidural guy I think) send a message up with one of the residents to say hi!
Again, thank you for your prayers. We will see how today goes and tomorrow, but they are thinking maybe discharge on Friday. Thankful they don’t want to rush things either and want to make sure everything is working like it should.
My ileostomy is already putting out gas and output (good thing) so the trick will be to manage that once I start more solid foods and am on pain meds that tend to constipate. That’s kind of the next step to pray about!
I went to the bathroom without a walker (but with a nurse by my side) so I think the next walk will be sans walker if the nurse okays it!! Thankful for strength and legs that work (unlike yesterday). And no nausea so far! Woohoo!
Thanks again and again for your prayers. It doesn’t seem like enough to just say it, but know that my heart truly is so thankful for you all!
